Hello Sweetheart,
I thought I would write you a note... just because.
Just because you are so strong for me.
Just because you are so tender with me.
Just because you make me laugh.
Just because you let me cry.
Just because you accept who I am.
Just because you help me to change.
Just because you take care of me.
Just because you let me take care of you.
Just because I love you.
Hello... Is this thing on?
What belongs to you won't pass you by.

The Best Ever
So far that is.
I can't remember when I have had a better Thanksgiving. There was no big turkey. I had half a breast and a couple of wings to cook. There was no cranberry sauce, but then again I am no big fan of cranberry sauce. There was no giblet dressing, just a box of Stove Top Stuffing. I would much rather have had real stuffing. The family was all of 2000 miles away. Some of you are wishing that for yourselves no doubt. And there was no snow.
Having said all of that, it was a very good Thanksgiving.
The day started off around 6:00am, when me and the girlfriend got up to go to get a Christmas tree. Apparently they were supposed to go on sale at 7:00. My girl was so excited, that even Scrooge couldn't have helped but to be excited as well.
So we are up and out of the door in time to be at the tree lot down by the docks precisely at 7:00am. Unfortunately the gentlemen who told us to be there by then the previous evening, didn't feel the need to be there themselves, so to kill some time we went to get some breakfast in Old San Juan.
On the way, we stopped and looked at a couple of sailing ships that were moored at the docks close by. They were modeled after ships in the 1800's, so they were really cool to look at. The diner we ate at had been in business in the same location for over 100 years and was steeped in atmosphere. It was cool.
Once we got back to the lot, the trees were way more than we were prepared to spend so off we went in search of more reasonably priced trees. This trek took us on several highways, some byways and a couple of side streets, but in the end, we came home with a nice little tree that now stands lit and decorated in the corner.
I watched the parade, or maybe listened to it I should say, while I made the food, and in the end, the dinner was good. I made everything I had planned to and everything came out as good or better than I had hoped.
It was a very good day. I never would have thought that I would have my Thanksgiving dinner on a tropical island.
It was truly a memory I will cherish for a long time. I am so grateful for my girl, and everything that I have with her. I hope for you all, that your Thanksgiving was as wonderful as mine.

OK. That's Just Strange
I went to Home Depot and Wal-Mart today. Not really the best day to do that. Seems like everyone goes to those kinds of places on a Sunday. Excursions on these days take a lot of patients. First finding a parking place. The Home Depot wasn't too bad, if you don't take into consideration the fact that place that I'm used to parking was totally full, and I ended up going with the flow of traffic that was leaving and was in the wrong lane to get back to where I was without a 1/2 mile detour. When I finally got back to where I was supposed to be, I didn't even look for a "close" parking place, and pulled into one of the first ones I saw. It worked for me, and I was able to go out the way I came in with practically no traffic.

That was Home Depot. Wal-Mart was a totally different story. I must admit, that if the girlfriend was with me, by the time we got into the store, one of us would have been ready to leave already. As it was, I did manage to find a parking spot... after driving around and around, waiting for the guy in front of me to wait for the spot in from of him, only to have it taken by someone else, then driving around some more. I finally found one in front of Pep Boys. Although there were no shopping carts available when I went in, I was able to find a shopping basket... on a shelf where someone was kind enough to leave it for me. And the line at the checkout wasn't too long.
Anyway, that adventure was not even the reason that I have decided to sit down and blog today. It was on the way home that I saw them. Being sold by the road side. Poinsettias.

OK, ok. I know that some of you from the warmer climates, are probably asking yourself what is so strange about that. Well, coming from a climate that is predominately cold at the traditional selling time of these plants... it's just something I never thought I would see. All right. I never even thought about the thought of seeing them sold by the road side.
Sure, change your latitude a bit, and the new things you'll see.
PS. The other grapefruit, still mostly green, was still very good.

I did it.
Live from Puerto Rico it's "Hello... Is this thing on?"
And you didn't even have to change the station. Yeah, I'm feeling akin to how Ellen might feel when she does her show from Disney World in Florida. OK. That might be a little bit of an oversell. But as Dorthy in the Wizard of OZ said "I don't think we're in Kansas anymore Toto."
I am here in beautiful Puerto Rico. The sun shine. The palm trees swaying in the wind. The banana, mango and grapefruit trees growing right along the side the road, tell me that I'm not in upstate NY anymore.
My girl too. She took me to the mountains yesterday. Wow. What a difference in the temp. We live in an apartment building in a suburb of San Jaun and what a difference in temperature some elevation makes. Anyway, we took a short drive up to the mountains for some BBQ. Pork BBQ that was very good. We stood in line ordered our food and found an out of the way place to eat.
When we finished eating, we walked around the slightly overgrown picnic area and she pointed out a grapefruit tree. I know it might sound rather lame, but I thought that was really cool. I'm used to apple trees. I've been to the orchard and picked apples. But grapefruit. Now there is something different.
Anyway, there was a fruit close to us. I don't think it was ripe, but if I could have reached it, I would have picked it anyway. Well, just to say that I did. That particular grapefruit, however, will live on to ripen on the tree. As we traveled back down the hill, we were discussing the banana tree. How that it grows, gives it's fruit, and then dies off. But not before an off shoot sprouts to continue the production of fruit.
We continued down the very narrow and winding road until, she pulled over near the guard rail and said there's a grapefruit tree. Sure enough there was a tree with quite a few fruit hanging from it with branches hanging over the guard rail. She told me to pick me a grapefruit or two. I looked at her and she once again she told me to pick a couple of fruit.
I was quite surprised, but managed to open the door enough to grab a couple and get back in the car. I couldn't help but to grin. I don't make it a habit of picking fruit off of other peoples trees, even though I doubt they will be missed at all, but that was cool. I picked a grapefruit off the tree. That might be akin to a city person saying they milked a cow. Which I have done before.
So. I am living in PR and picking tropical fruit straight off the trees. How cool is that. Unfortunately I don't think the fruit I picked are ripe. I'll wait a few more days before I cut one open to prove that it's not ripe. Still..... I picked a grapefruit.

Fresh off the tree.

What Do You Like To Hear
Last night the girlfriend and I were playing a game of sorts. At least it's billed as a game. Honestly it's just a set of cards with questions pertaining to sex. The questions range from what's your fantasy regarding threesome's and when did you first masterbate, to questions about your feelings and such.
Well, anyway, we were taking turns answering these questions when I got the question "What is the complement that you most like to hear?" Well, I think that was it. Anyway, I had to stop and think. I thought about the compliments I've gotten in the past. It was a little tough. I could say that I liked to be called beautiful, but self esteem issues still have a bit of a hold on me so although I like it, it's not my favorite. After a bit of thought I settled on a compliment for something I've done well. I know, seems kinda lame, but that's all I could come up with last night. Well, that was last night.
After receiving an email from the girlfriend this morning, I know know what my favorite compliment is. And maybe it's not really a compliment at all. Maybe it's just a statement. But I believe I like hearing this even more than kudos for something well done.
She wrote this to me this morning....
It's a bit late; just 2am. You're sound asleep. Wanted to send this out to you early. It's just a little thing that I want to share with you, especially today:
Happy Anniversary!!!
(she first posted on my blog a year ago today, and she sent me a song)
Haven't been able to sleep... been thinking of you... and how amazingly, fucking HAPPY I am with you. Have an eternal smile plastered.
*wink*
I love you, mi amor
I read that and it made me more happy than any compliment ever could have.
I love YOU baby. I am more than thrilled that I make you happy. You do as much and more for me.
PS. Happy Anniversary to you too sweetheart.

Hundreds of I Love You's
Yesterday I got home from work to find that I had a package. Don't you just love surprises? It was from my girl and I smiled immediately.. She had sent me a BUNCH of kisses. And a ton of "I love you's". She told me later, with a sly grin, that she had sent me enough "I love you's" that she wouldn't have to tell me she loved me again till I got down there with her.
"Fat chance" I said, "speak the words baby!"
She laughed.
